For the first time in Belgium, Brussels was the city of choice. Nevertheless, my boyfriend and I did have time for a day trip to Ghent — a port city in northwest Belgium.

How to get to Ghent?

Ghent is easily accessible from Brussels. For those who are not travelling by car, the fastest option is to take a train. The journey from Brussels North station to Ghent St Pieters takes approximately 40 minutes. We took the train from the north station as it was the closest to our accommodation. However, know that it is possible to take a train from the South or Central station.

What is the cost of the subway trip?

For older than 26 years the value is 9 € for each trip. Those who are 25 years old or less pay € 6 for each trip.

How to get to the center of Ghent?

To reach the city centre there are two options: on foot or by tram. We preferred to walk and in about 30 minutes the city centre was at our disposal. The great advantage of this route were the views that the city brought us.
